Product description

Licorice Root Powder is one of the most valuable herbal medicines, praised by ancient herbalists who used it on both humans and animals.

Approximately 30 percent of licorice's dry weight is made up of antibacterial and anti-fungal compounds. Licorice Root has the ability to harmonize with other herbs, especially Aloe Vera and its taste is not unpleasant to most horses.

Dosage

1 tablespoon added to damp feed daily (500kg Horse).

Benefits

  • Anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, anti-fungal and antibacterial properties
  • General health tonic
  • Anti-ulcer herb - may assist in reducing stomach secretions and protecting mucousal linings, thereby making it useful for gastric ulceration and inflammation
  • May help relieve scouring
  • May assist with stomach issues and reducing bloating
  • May assist with some skin conditions (particularly itchiness)
  • Known to soothe airways and help aid the respiratory system. May be beneficial for coughing, bronchial spasms and respiratory infections
  • Aspirin-like action and may be helpful in relieving fevers and soothing pain such as headaches
  • Anti-allergenic effect which may be useful for hay fever, allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis and bronchial asthma
  • May help ease stress/anxiety
  • May be used to treat irritation, inflammation and colic in the digestive tract
  • Rich in antioxidants

CAUTIONS: Licorice taken in excess or for a long period of time (over 3 months) can deplete potassium in the body and lower gastric secretions beyond the optimal limit. If treating ulcers we suggest using with Aloe Vera for no longer than 3 months and continue with Aloe Vera for maintenance. Licorice should not be taken simultaneously with potassium-depleting diuretics. It should also be avoided when taking digoxin based drugs.

Do not give it to pregnant mares as it may affect hormone levels.
